AMPG Hardware used for new Florida State Polytechnic University Pergola
In the summer of 2011, AMPG was approached by CD Systems LLC and MG McGrath, Inc., both division 5 sub-contractors on a project few people had heard about outside of Lakeland Florida. A new Florida State Polytechnic University campus had been approved for development. World-renowned architect and designer Santiago Calatrava was chosen as the principal architect and Skanska USA was awarded the GC contract.
The entire main building was to be surrounded by an elaborate pergola system. The campus had all of Calatrava’s signature touches. Our two customers had to find a way to connect the splice plates that were holding each member of the pergola system together. We worked tirelessly with the designers to find fasteners that had the strength, style and “out of sight” appearance they were looking for.
The outcome was a large, custom stainless steel sex bolt set with a countersunk flat head. And due to the size of the pergola system, the units needed to be assembled and then transported, which required another solution. Again, AMPG worked together with CD Systems LLC and MG McGrath to develop and manufactured custom temporary bolts that helped in the stabilization and placement of members during installation.
As you can see from the photos below, the new Florida State Polytechnic University is taking shape in Lakeland Florida, thanks to the hard work of CD Systems, MG McGrath, and Accurate Manufactured Products Group.
