A different (and better) look at binding posts
AMPG has recently started to manufacture USA made, Swiss Lathe Turned, Aluminum Binding Posts (Chicago Screws, Screw Posts, Sex Bolts) product line to go along with their Stainless Steel, Brass, and Steel Zinc Plated product lines.
Many customers requested a product that looked finely finished, and most importantly that was consistent from part to part. All other manufacturers of aluminum binding posts make them by cold forming. Cold forming has the advantage of speed and low cost, as a cold forming header will make these parts in less than one second, while Swiss Turning takes about 45 seconds. Cold formers also run from heading wire, while our Swiss Lathes are using centerless ground bar stock. The difference in appearance is startling, since the cold forming has a lot of variation in both dimensions and surface finish, which is very apparent if the fastener is used where a customer can see it, as part of the product or presentation.
These small size mating sets are used in the advertising, printing, catalog, product demonstration, cutlery, and many other industries, and play an important part in the initial perception of product quality. Having a finely made product or sample deck that’s fastened by something that looks as if it were lying in the street for a few months isn’t the best for your customers initial perception of quality and satisfaction.
Made on our new and advanced 7 to 10 axis automatic Swiss Lathes, these aluminum binding posts come off looking like jewelry, and complement any product line or advertising piece.
